I have a translation for Catullus' poem Carmen 56 (see below), and it is very different from the English translation on your site. Do you know if there is a definitive English translation?? I am planning on using it for an exhibition catalog, so it's important that the translation is accurate. Many thanks for your help!

Oh Cato here's a funny thing,
To make you laugh until you're sick!
And have you howl just like a hick:
It's more absurd than anything.
I caught this young shit in the grass
Screwing his girl, and ran my prick,
Just like a spear, right up his ass.

Hello Jessica,

I admit, it is rare for me to see a decent translation of a poem which also rhymes, but this is one of them! It's not really literal, but it does capture much of the poem. I heartily approve.

All the best,

Ó fato mais ridículo e engraçado,
Catão, merece os risos teus e ouvidos,
Rirás com teu Catulo não famoso.
Repito, é coisa de se gargalhar.
Há pouco vi um moleque assediando
Uma menina, então cheguei-me àquele
E o fiz desmoronar com meu canudo
Que nele urgi muitas e muitas vezes.
